6:00-7:00 p.m.
Garfield High School
Activity Center (1st Floor)
Agenda: Brainstorm vision statement and mission statement; sub-committee status updates;

Naming of Group
We agreed on "Garfield High School Foundation" and GarfieldHSF.org as the official title and DNS name. Ben will work on moving the ghsaf.org site content to GarfieldHSF.org, but in the meantime we will continue to use ghsaf.org. Even after GarfieldHSF.org is up and running, we’ll keep ghsaf.org pointing to GarfieldHSF.org. [If we're really lucky, someone may come along who wants to use that name and will pay us a premium for it!]

Vision and Mission Statements
Ben was way too optimistic about being able to nail these down quickly! We agreed to spend the bulk of the next meeting (8/13/02) working on these two statements. Lorna and Ben will guide the Organizing committee through some exercises to help find some common ideas and statements that we can start to focus on.

Please read Mission and Vision Statements for one perspective on what these should be and how to go about creating them (thanks to www.allianceonline.org for the guidance!).

Alliance For Education
Ben reported briefly on what he learned from his meeting with Rodney Wheeler of A4E, and several other Organizing committee members recounted some of their negatives experiences with A4E. The committee made no decision about using A4E services, choosing instead to continue to do more research on the Seattle Foundation and A4E to determine if we can use either of these organizations to handle our "back-office" needs: investments, check-cutting, snail mailing, etc.

Alumni Committee
Jody Fueyo volunteered to join the committee.
Ben is working on getting alumni lists from the Seattle Public Schools and Reunions With Class.

Development Committee
Judith Gille volunteered to act as chair of the Development Committee, so we moved that to the Priority 1 group.
Lynn Greiner volunteered to join the committee.

Governance Committee
This committee is continuing to research and review potential bylaw elements, and is working on a draft that they will send out for review later in the summer for the entire Organizing committee to review.
Lynn Greiner volunteered to join the committee.

Information Technology Committee
Ben will ask Judith for a list of alumni database software and continue researching available database solutions (before he commits to writing a customer solution).

Trustee Committee
Elisabeth and Katherine handed out a list of the potential board candidates that they have identified so far. We discussed a few of the candidates briefly, and discuseed the skill categories that we think are important to have represented on the board.

Garfield Lore
Garfield is 80 years old and was originally the Broadway High School.
