Summer Bridge Program -- Getting 9th graders off to a strong start
Watch the King5 TV news story.

The Garfield High School Foundation gave $22,000 to fully fund the 2009 Garfield High School Summer Bridge Program.

Open to all incoming freshmen, 91 Bulldogs spent 3+ hours a day, 5 days a week, for 5 weeks during the summer of 2009 (June 29 to July 31) preparing for high school.

"I learned that this school really is welcoming and they actually care about my education and want all of us to succeed in life. This may sound corny, but I know that I'm going to love this school and never want to leave." -- a freshman

The program prepared students for the important academic and social transition from middle school to high school. The funds provided by GHSF supported the 10 certified teachers and the 70 University of Washington teacher candidates who provided instruction and academic support for the students. Due to the success of the program this past summer, it will very likely be replicated throughout the entire Seattle Public School system.
